My advice for girls who are waiting for their Prince Charming is to be open for anything. Be open to new experiences, be open to the idea that it may take longer than you want, but if you're open to meeting new people and new adventures, then love will come along.

The demons will be destroyed come August 2013.

That’s when the big-screen adaptation of Cassandra Clare’s best-selling urban fantasy novel, “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones” slashes its way into a theater near you.

The first of a six-part series, “City of Bones” introduces 15-year-old Clary Fray, a seemingly “normal” Brooklyn teen who discovers she’s descended from a line of half-human, half-angel warriors called Shadowhunters, who are tasked with protecting the world from all things that go bump in the night. While unraveling the mysteries of her heritage, Clary quickly falls for the snarkiest of all Shadowhunters, impossibly good-looking Jace Wayland. But unbeknownst to Clary, their roots intertwine in a way that will cause heartbreak for them both.

The film rights to this epic tale were snatched up by Screen Gems all the way back in 2010, and with a cast that includes Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower and Jonathan Rhys Meyers, the adaptation finally began filming this summer in Toronto. MTV News was invited to visit the set recently, and we’re pleased to serve up your very first, exclusive look at the film.

“It’s really a story that’s based in reality as much as it is in this fantasy world. They’re coexisting,” Collins, who plays Clary, explained. “It’s more emotionally and character-based than just aesthetically beautiful. It’s got amazing imagery and the CGI is going to be incredible, but it’s not just about that.”

Readers will likely identify the scene being filmed the day of our visit as Magnus Bane’s (Godfrey Gao) house party, a fete in which fairies, vampires and all manner of supes merrily co-mingle. Clary tracks down the High Warlock of Brooklyn for help when her mother is kidnapped.

The “City of Bones” shooting schedule has been a rigorous one, with night shoots par for the course.

“We’re standing here. It’s like three o’clock in the morning,” Bower said. “I’m not in the world’s greatest mood, but I get to go to work, and I get to be a bit of an a–hole.”

At least he’s looking on the bright side.

Be sure to keep checking back with MTV News for more exclusive “City of Bones” content. In the coming months, we’ll be introducing you to the film’s cast of colorful characters (including Magnus) and reveal an interview with author Cassandra Clare.
